Barcelona are keen to extend the career of superstar Lionel Messi, even if that means protecting him from injuries on the training ground.

Lionel Messi is 'protected' in Barcelona training due to fears of picking up any injuries, according to team-mate Jean-Clair Todibo.

The young centre-back, who joined the club from Toulouse last January, has departed the Nou Camp to join Schalke on loan and play more first-team football.


After arriving in Germany, he was quickly asked about life alongside Argentinian superstar Messi and how he fared against the six-time Ballon d'Or winner.

In an interview with Bild, he claimed he was sometimes able to stop the magician - but stated he is carefully protected by club bosses in training to ensure he avoids any injuries.


Todibo said: I learnt a lot training with Messi and sometimes I even got the ball off him.

"But Messi is protected carefully because no one wants to injure him."
